IASO Hybrid Cloud Backup and Disaster Recovery

IASO (Paty of Solarwinds MSP) is one of the leading brands in Hybrid Cloud Backup, Disaster Recovery Software and cloud storage for managed services providers (MSPs), large enterprises, telecommunication- and hosting providers. Using the Disk-to-Disk-to-Cloud (D2D2C) model (Often using an on-premises NAS appliance), IASO Online Backup provides affordable, easy-to-use and efficient backup and recovery of critical digital assets across all main computing platforms. IASO’s proven technology backs up millions of files, servers and workstations worldwide, and ensures mission-critical data is protected and available at all times.

1. Security Features

Backup is one of the most important areas to protect as this is where the crown jewels such as patient data are housed. IASO secure backup solutions helps customers comply with RACGP accreditation requirements through strong encryption, and the fact that the customer holds the private encryption keys so the data cannot be altered by an outside party. And having IASO backup in the cloud means your private data is always secure and available, with no fear of loss.

IASO’s hybrid cloud-based backup solution uses several procedures for securing files, but the tool’s most important one is that data is encrypted using a ‘private encryption key,’ created by customers themselves, which encrypts the data using 128b AES, 256b AES or even 448b Blowfish encryption. All data is sent out fully encrypted and divided in cabinets over an SSL secured connection to the storage where it will reside in that same state. All actions, such as backup, restore, cleaning etc., are initiated by the customer using the private encryption key. The encryption key is never sent and remains on the customers’ server or workstation at all times. This way, IASO can guarantee privacy and security of the data.

2. Integration & Management Tools

The IASO backup client is built natively (without the use of Java or .NET) for all operating systems, like Windows (32 and 64 bit), Mac, Linux and even Unix. IASO integrates with those operating systems almost on a core basis. As for other architectures like Exchange, SQL, MySQL, SharePoint, VMware or Hyper-V, IASO has free plugins, allowing customers to integrate regardless of complexity of their business environment. This in effect guarantees successful backups and restores of these architectures without the need for external scripts or downtime.

3. Backup and Recovery Speed

IASO’s hybrid cloud backup is capable of utilizing the entire bandwidth available, so in terms of speed, the one with the slowest connection (usually the client side) is the bottleneck. IASO can’t guarantee speeds ranging over that bandwidth, unless the Local Speed Vault is enabled; that gives the customer the option to have a redundant copy on the local network in parallel with the data in the cloud. This gives customers the guarantee to backup and recover at LAN speed, usually around 1Gbps. When the customer restores corrupted databases or files, they will restore only parts of the file to make it operable again, giving maximum restore speeds that exceed the maximum bandwidth.

Customers can create the initial backup using multiple ways. IASO advises to do it directly online, using its advanced bandwidth throttling, to minimize the hindrance of the backup process with the day-to-day business of the customer. The other way is to do a seed-load backup to any USB device, which is done completely encrypted, again with IASO’s private encryption technology, and take that to a location with a higher capacity bandwidth and upload it from there to the cloud based storage.

4. Unique Features

Where IASO is different in the market for SME IT Resellers is in its ease-of-use, single-click restores and scalability. The company’s product can backup millions of files per server and can do the heavy lifting to backup 3TB Exchange servers in less than 2 hours versus the 22 hours that others tend to take.

Hosting and data center companies won’t require expensive hardware, as the software does the hard work; in fact, the company advises customers not to use expensive hardware that is able to do deduplication or embedded replication, since that’s already built into IASO’s solution. It will only bring up the price of the service, while adding no value.

5. Secure Data Centres

Your backup is only as safe as the cloud that contains it. With IASO, many customers choose a hybrid approach where one tier of backup is on the premises and another tier in the cloud. On the cloud side, IASO has six state of the art data centers around the world – with more to come.

By default IASO Cloud Backup saves the data in the geography where the data is created. For example when your customer resides in Australia, the data will be send to the data center in Australia. Australia’s data centre is Equinix located in Sydney.

The secure data center locations are constantly guarded by highly trained security officers around the clock, 365 days a year. Physical security also includes the use of CCTV monitoring. And the centers are kept up and running thanks to backup generators. Data, meanwhile, is stored on redundant arrays in case of a disk failure. And every IASO data center is either SSAE compliant or ISO certified.

The data centers used by IASO are secured to the highest possible standards.

IASO DATA CENTERS HAVE THE FOLLOWING ISO CERTIFICATIONS:

ISO 9001 :2008
ISO14001:2004
OHSAS 18001:2007
ISO27001:2005
ISO50001:2011
PCI-DSS Chapter 9

6. Service Level Agreement

IASO requires no initial outlay in software, just a monthly fee for your usage.

In terms of disputes, IASO covers the guarantees in their SLA, in terms of quality of backup of restores, as well as uptime and availability of customer data. IASO also helps their customers with disputes with their end-customers; that’s a step further that others are not always willing to take.

IASO’s offers “follow the sun” support, which guarantees customers get help in less than four hours any time and any day of the week. The entire backup and recovery platform is designed and hosted by IASO. Because of the efficiency and speed of the software, you don’t need expensive hardware compared to some other backup vendors. By default customers and service providers backup to our platform.

With more than 50,000,000 backups per year, 40,000 successful recoveries per month and millions of devices on its proven world-class platform, IASO is a backup and disaster recovery solution with a goal to make the hard stuff look easy.
